In the old Watney-Combe brewery in Covent Garden the Seven Dials Hawksmoor restaurant is a long lower-ground space with architectural columns and exposed brickwork. Lighting was to sit well with plush, dark leather and wood and was a challenge in a space with little natural light and many obstructing pillars.

The lighting concept focused on how to provide a good level of ambient light in a basement space. Into created a series of indirect coffer details using cold cathode to light up into the vaulted ceilings. This is supplemented by bespoke lighting which lines the walls and low-glare pinspots directed onto dining tables.

The lighting design creates an ambience that evolves from lunch through to late evening scenes, and considers the lack of natural lighting within the basement space.
