The redesign of the National Theatre gift shop was to revitalise the space and to draw people from across the central foyer. into lighting worked as lighting design consultants alongside Lumsden Design and also supplied much of the lighting involved on the project.

A large part of the concept was to create a ‘wall of light’ which would fill the length of the wide entrance to the Gift Shop and suitably highlight product and display areas. This required  correct light levels so as not to be overpowering, but to entice people towards the Gift Shop. This was created through a combination of adjustable LED spotlights and profile lighting arranged in sequenced lines running laterally across the long narrow space.

“A glowing, theatrical space that draws audiences in across the National Theatre’s foyers and then invites exploration.” – Kate Bone, Head of Retail at The National Theatre
